Mart

He really tucked that away with aplomb, made it look very easy but still had to find his way past a few defenders and the keeper.

Journalists are shit, nothing surprising there.

The two papers I have seen doing ratings the most any one player got was Cresswell (8)... surprised me a bit

Re: Player Ratings
Thought Noble took his goal beautifully. Clever choice for where to place it and made it look easy. I think having Obiang behind him could make all the difference.

Re: Player Ratings
So how should they set up against Newcastle. It is clear the players can play. But formation appears to be key.
Presumably, NU will target our full-backs and break wide.

Re: Player Ratings
Excellent display from top to bottom.

MotM for me was Lanzini. Chased the ball, looked comfortable with it, closed down players and got a goal.

Runner up, Aaron Cresswell. Top drawer performance, and just pipped by Lanzini because he was excellent.

Re: Player Ratings
Randolph - 8 Not much do but what a difference a few weeks make. Looks a different keep and it's not just the beard.

Tomkins - 9 Our best defender on the day and for me the best defender at the club

Reid - 8 Rock solid display, stopped almost all the danger early

Ogbonna - 8 Looks a real player, calm and confident

Cresswell - 8 Bang back to form, shows what happens when you set the team right

Kouyate - 8 Power house in the midfield, drives the team

Obiang - 8 As real touch of class about this bloke

Noble - 9 MOTM The new captain lead from the front, scored the vital 2nd and never stopped working. Some of his passing was simply outrageous. Joke sending off

Lanzini - 9 WOW exciting, Liverpool shit themselves everytime he got the ball but his tracking back and defending was excellent.

Sakho - 8 Worked his bollocks off and got his reward, Carroll will find it hard to shift a Sakho in this kind of mood

Payet - 9 Absolute class this fella, great on the ball, bags load of skill but like Lanzini worked hard and tracked back

Re: Player Ratings
Each player for me has a case for mom but I thought noble was superb. Perhaps its coming out of Nolan's shadow, perhaps because he has the presence of obiang, but he was coming back to his role as all round all action midfielder yesterday. His range of passing was superb.

Re: Player Ratings
There was no weak link today. Terrific team & individual performances!

Our defenders defended so well that Randolph had little to do

Our defensive midfielders worked hard & showed a will to win the ball at every opportunity

Our attacking midfielders showed real quality & skill & were a threat all afternoon

Sakho looked determined & never stopped working for his fully deserved goal

So difficult to call MOTM but I would give it to Lanzini just for his first 15/20 mins where he set us on our way, then helped out the defence like a man possessed, but to be fair it could have been anyone

We could have won by more even!

Plus 10 for Slaven and 100 for the away support.

Re: Player Ratings
Randolph - 7 - did all that was required
Tomkins - 9 MOTM - the defence looked far better than last week, because he takes less risks, which allows the more creative players more freedom, but also comfortable on the ball.
Reid - 8 - played to his strengths, kept Benteke in his pocket
Ogbonna - 8 - Same as Reid, but better on the ball
Cresswell - 8 - can't be the same player as last week!!!
Kouyate - 8 - great presence and drive from the midfield
Obiang - 8 - seems to know how to play the deep role instintively
Noble - 8 - great performance from the Captain, worked his nuts off, god knows how he was given a red!!! and scrored again!!
Lanzini - 9 - brilliant 1st half, and worked really hard 2nd, good on the ball and off it.
Sakho - 8 - lead the line superbly
Payet - 9 - quality player, enough said

Substitutes

Jarvis - 7 - did everything right when he came on, hopefully under Slaven he can get back to his best
Oxford - 7 - just ssems so assured and intelligent for such a young player
Cullen - 6 - not enough time to make any judgement

Re: Player Ratings
Thought the whole team was superb. Hard to pick a MOTM. Payet's skill is outrageous. Every midfielder workers to support the defence and played the ball out, attacking in numbers. Composure on the ball was excellent from everyone. Positioning and teamwork was top class. Finishing was outstanding.

Who deserves less than a ten?

Re: Player Ratings
Randolph - 6 - Not much to do, but did everything well.

Tomkins - 8 - Our best defender. Has to stay at right back now. Jenkinson needs to fight.
Reid - 7 - Handled Benteke well, but the big Belgian was isolated throughout.
Ogbonna - 8 - Very composed footballing defender. Will have his shockers, but adds a lot to the team.
Cresswell - 9 - Excellent performance after the worst full back display in history last week.

Obiang - 8 - Excellent midfield destroyer. Mobile, well positioned and aggressive. What we needed.
Noble - 8 - Excellent game, unfortunately tarnished by the red, which you'd expect to be rescinded, but you never know these days.
Kouyate - 7 - Excellent work rate, poor quality on the ball. Perfect for away games, but should make way for Lanzini on home games.

Lanzini - 9 - I labelled him the Pebble after his first display. Today the Jewel was better than Coutinho at the Coutinho role. MOTM.
Sakho - 8 - Worked hard. Less convincing in front of goal than last year, but is always a threat. Deserved goal in the end.
Payet - 9 - Best West Ham footballer since Tevez I'd say. Superbly gifted and we may only have him for 12-18 months. But what a player.
